You know how sometimes we do things that make a mess, like spilling juice or leaving toys all over the floor? And then we have to clean it up? Well, when people burn things like gasoline in their cars or coal to make electricity, it makes a kind of mess in the air called pollution. And just like our messes, that pollution hurts our planet.

A carbon tax is like a cleaning up fee for making that mess. When grown-ups buy gasoline for their cars or electricity for their homes, they have to pay a little extra money. That money helps pay for cleaning up the pollution and for finding cleaner ways to do things, like using the sun or wind for energy.

So, just like how we try to be neat and clean up after ourselves, a carbon tax helps everyone try to be cleaner and kinder to the Earth.
